Our objectives
KANAA (meaning dream) Educational Trust was started with the dream of uplifting the lives of the underprivileged, marginalized, vulnerable and delinquent children and youth in a dignifiedmanner. Kanaa believes education is fundamental to an equitable society. The famous saying,“Give a man a fish, and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you’ve fed him for alifetime.” is a mantra that can alleviate inequality and poverty in the society through holisticeducation that equips and empowers children and youth with the knowledge, skills, awareness, andthe proper attitudes and values to become responsible and fruitful citizens.
The KANAA EDUCATIONAL TRUST is a registered (no. 93/2020; Indian Trust Act 1882)non-government entity working with the underprivileged children. It is located in Chennai. Withspecial focus to vulnerable, underprivileged, marginalized and delinquent children and youth, weintend to work towards the following.
Ongoing Activities of Kanaa
Youth Rehab Programs
Providing life skills training, vocational guidance, de-addiction programs, and psychological counseling and therapies to Children in Conflict with Law residing in Special Homes to date. These initiatives aim to rehabilitate.
Agri Training Kids
In coordination with other NGOs, we are providing agricultural training to children in Special Homes. This initiative aims to equip them with valuable skills, promote self-sufficiency, and enhance their opportunities .
Education Post-Release
After their release, we follow up to ensure they continue their education and provide vocational guidance for rehabilitation. This support aims to help them successfully reintegrate into society and build a stable, productive future.
Rehabilitation and Reintergration
We have rehabilitated and provided education to five boys released from the Special Home. Additionally, more than ten boys, whose cases are still ongoing, have also received rehabilitation support.
Skills & Education
We provide sex education, online safety, drug prevention training, financial literacy, and life skills training. These programs aim to equip individuals with essential knowledge and skills for making informed decisions.
Career Guidance for Students
We provide career guidance to school children using standardized tools. This approach helps students identify their strengths and interests, guiding them towards suitable career paths and ensuring they make informed decisions.
Statewide Student Counseling
Since 2022, we have provided psychological counseling to all residential government model schools across Tamil Nadu. This initiative aims to support students' mental health, enhance their well-being, and ensure they receive the necessary psychological support.
Student Mental Health Support
We offer psychological expertise to government school children, providing them with essential mental health support. This initiative aims to enhance their emotional well-being, address psychological issues, and promote a healthier and more supportive learning environment.
Psychological Support and Govt School Alumni
We provide psychological support to alumni of government schools who are placed in premier institutions across India. This support aims to help them navigate their academic and personal challenges, ensuring their well-being and success in these prestigious.
Activities done
Career Guidance for Special Home
During COVID-19 in 2020, we provided online career guidance and life skills training to Special Home children, helping them develop essential skills and prepare for their future despite the pandemic challenges.
Skill development programme
In 2022, we delivered skill development programs to children in need of care and protection, residing in homes funded by the Department of Social Defence, enhancing their capabilities and future prospects.
Visual leaning of 3 School's
We upgraded three Anganwadi schools by painting them, providing study materials, furniture, and televisions to aid visual learning, enhancing the educational environment for young children.
Transformative Summer Camp 2023
In May 2023, the Kanaa Educational Trust Summer Camp in Thirunelveli provided government school children with life skills, heritage exploration, and nutritious meals. The camp empowered disadvantaged students and received positive feedback for its impactful program and nutrition education.
